Terminology and Concepts
A reference guide to the language used throughout the Ewarookad platform
Why this reference exists
Information systems often use terminology that is precise within the system but unfamiliar to new users. This page defines the key terms and concepts used within the Ewarookad platform and on this website so that users arrive at the platform with a shared understanding of the language being used.
These definitions reflect how terms are used within the Ewarookad context specifically. They are not universal definitions and may differ from how the same terms are used in other information systems or technical literature.
Core terminology
| Term | Meaning within Ewarookad |
|---|---|
| Record | A single unit of information stored within the platform. A record has one or more fields, belongs to at least one category, and may have associated annotations. |
| Category | A label applied to a record during the classification process. Categories are predefined at the system level and are used to group related records together. |
| Classification | The process of assigning category labels to records. Classification is performed automatically by the Record Classifier tool based on configurable rules. |
| Annotation | A note attached to a record by the system during classification. Annotations provide additional context, cross-references, or summaries that complement the underlying record data. |
| Review view | The reading interface presented to users within the platform. A review view displays records in a structured, readable layout rather than as raw data. |
| Group | A set of records that have been consolidated by the Grouping and Consolidation View because they relate to the same subject or share a defined relationship. |
| Filter | A selection criterion applied through the Filter and Retrieval Engine to narrow the set of records displayed in a review view. |
| Enquiry | A submission made through the Enquiry Submission Interface describing a user's question, request for information, or request for access to the platform. |
| Access request | A specific type of enquiry in which the user is requesting permission to access part or all of the Ewarookad platform. Access requests are reviewed by the support team and are not automatically approved. |
| Summary field | A shortened representation of a record's key information, displayed in the condensed view of the Data Review Panel. Summary fields are generated from the full record content. |
Classification concepts
Classification within Ewarookad is a rule-based process. Classification rules define how a record's content is evaluated and which category labels are assigned as a result. Rules are configured at the system level and are not adjusted by individual users during a review session.
A record may be assigned to more than one category if its content satisfies the criteria for multiple categories. In these cases, all applicable category labels are displayed alongside the record in the review view.
Classification is not infallible. Records that contain ambiguous or incomplete content may receive category assignments that do not fully reflect the nature of the record. Where precision is important, users are encouraged to review the full record detail alongside its assigned categories.
Understanding annotations
Annotations appear alongside records in the Data Review Panel and are visually separated from the main record content so that users can distinguish between original data and system-generated context. Not all records will have annotations. The presence of an annotation indicates that the classification process identified material worth surfacing alongside the record, such as a cross-reference to a related entry or a brief summary of the record's content.
Annotations are descriptive rather than prescriptive. They add context but do not alter the underlying record or constitute a recommendation of any kind.
Navigation within the platform
Users navigate the platform primarily through the Data Review Panel, applying filters to narrow the records shown and using the Grouping and Consolidation View to explore related records. The general reading flow is: browse a filtered set of records, open a specific record for full detail, review any annotations, and navigate to related records through group links where available.
The Enquiry Submission Interface is accessed separately from the main review interface and is used for support or access-related matters rather than for browsing records.
